BUT it's yummy! I'm going to give the orginal recipe and where there is a * look at the bottom for things that can be used instead.
Taco Pie
4 cans of ready made crescent rolls (store brand or name brand)*
one package of taco seasoning
one regular can of enchilada sauce*
1 lb of ground beef*
1 pack of shredded cheese*
*you can use the whole wheat crescent rolls in place of the white crescent rolls
*in place of the enchilada sauce, you can use fresh made salsa
*the ground beef can be replaced with either turkey or tofu
*and with the cheese, just pick up the lowfat or dairy free type
Pre-heat oven according to directions for crescent rolls.
Take a regular sized casserole dish and line the bottom with two cans of crescent rolls, it's okay if the dough pulls apart.. just add flour to mend it together again.
Ground your meat, drain and then season with taco seasoning mix.
Next add in either the enchilada sauce or fresh salsa
Once meat is mixed with sauce, add to your dish by covering the top of the crescent rolls that are lining the bottom.
Add cheese
Finally, take your remaining crescent rolls and cover the pie and place in oven.
Cook until golden, it's alright if the bottom of the pie is gooey.. it actually tastes better that way. lol
